How try-outs work

  1. Register for a tryout session
  2. Attend the try-out session
    - Arrive 30 minutes prior to the session and register your attendance.
    - The group of players will be directed to a space on the oval where their knowledge, skills and enjoyment assessed.
    - It is expected that one or multiple parents of kids who receive an offer will step up and coach/co-coach the team.
    Boots and shin pads mandatory!
  3. Players will be sorted into squads and teams created based loosely on total numbers.
  4. It may be a series of drills and/or scratch matches.
  5. It's an opportunity to gauge the kids level on engagement, skill and enjoyment.

After tryouts

To be a part of any team at Plympton Bulldogs, every player must attend a session to be observed. When a team is ready to offer you a role, this is the process:

  • Verbal commitment
An official will ring the primary phone number and verbally offer a position and answer any questions you may have.
  • Accept invite
If you indicated you would like to proceed, that will trigger a committent email that will provide a link to claim discounts and provide a total fee and a season commitment clause to accept.
  • Pay fees
It’s preferable that all fees are paid in full at once. If you are able to choose a payment plan when generating the invoice, there will be an initial payment due on delivery and 3 x part payments over the following 6 weeks. No game or uniform will be possible until paid in full.
  • Uniform fitting
Trials, offer, accept and payment all takes place over a week ot two. A few weeks later we will hold a uniform fitting session(s). Ordering and delivery take approximately 8-12 weeks - or a month before season usually starts.

Team leaders

The basic premise for being a coach is a willingness to pass on enthusiasm, patience, skills and knowledge to our kids. Share the role with another parent, help each other out if time is tight!

To start, you need a basic understanding of the rules of soccer, a Working with Children Check (WWCC) and some committed time. You don't need a pedigree background of coaching through Europe to take part! Football SA hold regular 2 day courses that are invaluable and are a minimum requirement for U12 up and these course are paid for by the Club.

Allow yourself ~1.5 hours x 2 days a week for training - traditionally on a Wednesday and Friday evening then another 2.5 hours on Sunday to get to the match, warm up the team, play the match and pack up. Additionally, we hold presentation nights after 3-4 matches (around an hour) where the team catch up in the club and present coach awards.
